“Quiet beach retreat” October 14, 2016
We had a wonderful few days at Ventana Bay. We were the only guests during our stay, and were look after very well by Tony and the rest of the team. Any hotel that lets you pour our own drinks and trusts you you keep the tally has my vote. The hotel garden is very peaceful, and visited by a wide variety of birds. The beach is breathtaking, was pretty much empty when we were there, and very safe to walk along, even at night. A perfect place to unwind.

“A beautiful place” August 17, 2016
A wonderful place, clean and quite. Very close to the wonderful beach. The sea is amazing. Tony and Marcela have been very good hosts. Breakfast were delicious. We slept in a bungalow: it is comfortable, with spacious room and bathroom (restroom) and a patio with lookout on the dawn on the sea. Forniture is fine and new.
“Stunning and Friendly” April 18, 2016
Our family loved our seven days at Ventana Bay Resort. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and fun. The rooms were artfully designed, cool, and a good place to duck into when we needed them — which was RARELY. Why would we be inside with so much to do? We spent our days mountain biking, paddleboarding, eating, snorkeling, running and walking the vast beach, watching for dolphins, whales, rays. If your eyes are open, you’re adventuring: pelicans, frigate birds, stretches of horizon, sunrises, sunsets. We cannot wait to return.

“Delightful and charming!” February 11, 2016
If you are a kite surfer, this delightful small resort is a must! My husband and I are not kite surfers, but enjoyed our five night stay here in mid-January immensely. The staff are knowledgeable and gracious. If you prefer your vacation lodgings on the small, personal and quiet side, this is the place for you! We went fishing one day and the wonderful cooks in the restaurant prepared our catch for dinner (we had enough to share with the other guests). I can’t imagine anybody not finding this little gem to be a fabulous vacation landing spot!
“Lovely Ventana” February 3, 2016
I’m losing count of my visits to Ventana Bay Resort. It never disappoints! Since last being there in 2013, many more improvements have been made. A beautiful new Bungalow with an awesome view and an outdoor shower (as well as an indoor), new stone retaining walls etc. Bill, Dari, Tony, Marty and the great kitchen staff made us feel at home and well fed for the entire week. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner, every meal is delicious & well presented with fresh ingredients. We caught three Yellowtails on Sunday which were done up on the Barbeque for a wonderful dinner. Tony’s pre-dinner Tequilas are as good as ever. Tried some new hiking trails along the coast north of the resort which were spectacular with fantastic views of the Sea of Cortez. Already booked for next year. I highly recommend Ventana Bay Resort.

“RENEWING” January 2 2016
I am not a kite surfer, but was there visiting kiting friends. This place is not only clean, beautiful, and peaceful, the people and the vibe here are rejuvenating and welcoming. The owners, Bill and Dari, are more than accommodating, the manager, Tony, is charismatic and friendly as well as willing to help with anything necessary. Marty, the kite instructor acts as a liaison with guests and staff, befriending everyone. It is away from the crowded kite beaches, but close enough to easily get to them. They have kayaks, mountain bikes, and other gear for guests use, just walk down to the beach and go! My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer. I left there with a strong feeling of peace and harmony, as well as new friends.
“Fabulous Get Away”
This is a marvellous place with the most heavenly views ; serene , private and stunningly beautiful. A shout out to Marty, Bill and Tony ( as well as the wonderful girls in the kitchen who fed us so well).
Dreaming of my return and did I mention the wind is steady and strong, can you say kiting? Mountain biking. Stabd up paddling , snorkelling and the most incredible massages available by appointment.
A most unique and special place.

Discovering Ventana Bay Resort was like finding a hidden secret. We had that “eureka” feeling immediately. Utterly gorgeous, sloping property with hand crafted, deluxe cottages right on a perfect sandy bay, lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez… what could be more perfect than a vacation at this paradise? We were simply enchanted by it the moment we began to take it all in.
Meals were sumptuous Mexican fare, the lighting throughout the place was subtle and relaxation-inducing, and the views… ahhhhh, the views… simply breathtaking. Service was always with a constant, sincere smile. If you are looking for a spot you will never forget, especially if you like or want to learn “kite boarding,” this is it. Or, if you prefer a private, beach getaway with tranquility as the theme, this is it. You simply can’t miss here. Thanks to Tony, Dari, Bill and the staff, we loved our far-too-brief time in paradise.
“Ventana Bay Resort – Amazing”
Ventana Bay Resort, El Sargento. Perfect getaway. Beautiful garden and floral surroundings and special attention to gorgeous architecture make this retreat special. The beach, food, hospitality, and atmosphere were perfect for unwinding, but the area has so much to offer for exploration, you could classify this an “adventure” vacation as well. El Sargento is charming. We ate at a different open air restaurant each night, all great.
Best known for its wind sports, there is a lot more going on. Fishing, paddle boarding, reefs, snorkeling, Jacques Cousteau Island, and nearby Los Barilles and La Paz. We will be back to do more exploring, and to enjoy the beauty of Ventana Bay resort and the area.
“Lovely Ventana” March 15, 2013
This is becoming an annual pilgrimmage. Just came back from my latest visit to Ventana Bay Resort. I took my daughter along this year for her first visit and she loved it! She stayed in her own private bungalow next to mine. The view from both our bungalows is spectacular! We weren’t lucky enough to spot a whale this year but Tony, the resort manager had seen one swim by very close to shore a couple of days before we got there. Did get to see a few Dolphins swim by. Meals as usual were excellent. I caught a 35 lb. Yellow Tail which was Barbequed that night. Delicious! Had dinner a couple of evenings at a local restaurant which serves great Mexican food and according to my daughter, a pretty good old fashioned Hamburger as well. Our hosts Bill and Dari were very gracious and accomodating as always although a littl tired after a busy winter season. The kite boarders were out in force three days out of the week and it’s great entertainment watching them skim along the surface with their colourful kites! Next year I’m taking lessons for sure. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday (this is not Cancun) and possibly some fishing, mountain biking, hiking, kite boarding or wind surfing go to El Sargento and stay at the Ventana Bay Resort. Exellent!
“Beautiful resort for those who are active” March 7, 2013
We stayed for 5 days at the Ventana Bay. La Ventana is not a destination for everyone. Virtually all guests were involved in a sport and most in kiteboarding. If your definition of “extreme” sports is just hanging on a zip line, look elsewhere. AIso, this is not a place for nightlife or shopping. I came to LV primarily to kiteboard and secondarily to ride my bike. The resort is surrounded by well cared for succulents and the resort is right on a beautiful beach. The buildings and rooms are carefully and cheerfully decorated. We opted for a room right on the beach instead of one of the bungalows. The equipment available for rent is in good-excellent condition. My wife got the sports package and used the SUPs (excellent condition) and the MTBs (good condition), i.e., could use some maintenance. The MTB was functional after just a little tune-up. I also rented a kite harness because I forgot mine at home. The included food, i.e., breakfast and lunch, was well prepared and nutritious. On some nights dinner is offered. Though we did not partake, other guests stated that the four course meal was quite good. At $25PP, it is relatively expensive for Mexico. The major downside to our stay was that I had anticipated having a kite instructor on site. Because the resort’s instructor broke his femur and a replacement was not found, I ended up being set up with Ventana Xperience. The instructor from VX was very good but the hourly rate was approximately twice that of the resident resort instructor, and added considerable expense to our stay.
“Great place!” February 5, 2013
My wife and I went to Ventana Bay together with our one and a half year old daughter and loved every minute of our stay. Everybody was so nice, the food wonderful, and the wind was blowing most days. We will stay at VBR again when going back and can wholeheartedly recommend you do so too.
“Lovely place, great people, wonderful food!” December 31, 2012
En route home from our week at VBR. My husband would prefer I NOT write a review, so that this place can remain our little secret, but the folks at VBR worked so hard throughout our stay I must tell you all how wonderful this little resort is. If you are considering La Ventana / El Sargento for your getaway – THIS is your place.
Thank you Bill, Dari and Antonio for taking care of all of our needs and making our stay so fabulous, and thank you to the entire staff for the amazing food and loving care. We will be back – hopefully there will still be space available for us.

My wife and I spent 5 days at Ventana Bay Resort. I’m a kiteboarder, my wife is not so we wanted a place where both would be happy (for kiters–the launch is excellent). From the welcome we received, to the relaxed atmosphere, to the way we connected with others at Ventana Bay–all was perfect. We travel a great deal all over the world so I can say the value is excellent and the atmosphere unparalleled. The owner Bill has put his heart into the place. We considered staying in one of the Casitas, and ended up staying in the main building–both are excellent choices. This is a place for someone who enjoys the outdoors–there isn’t a great deal of culture, local population, etc (those are within an hour’s drive in La Paz and some adjacent towns) but the pure beauty of the setting, its orientation to sun and sunset, etc. are tremendous. If you’re going to La Ventana, this is the place to stay. If/when we go back, we wouldn’t consider staying elsewhere.
“Looking to relax?”
March 27, 2012
My wife and I and a few friends visited Ventana Bay Resort in early March. It was my second visit and was even more enjoyable than the first time. The accomodations were excellent, the food delicious and as always, the friendly staff were always pleasant and helpful. Went fishing one morning with three of us on the boat. We caught two nice sized Jurel or Yellowtails which the girls in the restaurant served up in a few different and delightful ways over the next few days. We were treated to a spectacular show one afternoon when a whale passed by just off shore and a short time later we were entertained by a bunch of Dolphins who were leaping out of the water and having a great time for several minutes. What a show! Kiteboarding and windsurfing is very popular in Ventana with it’s steady winds which come up every day mid morning and die down after lunch when everyone has had their fill. It’s a beautiful sight when fifty or sixty kites are flying and I’m sure even more fun if you’ve learned the sport and are joining the fun. Took a side trip to La Paz one day and enjoyed the beautiful bay and visited a couple of lovely beaches on the way back. The desert landscape coupled with the mountains and Sea of Cortez have a unique quality that I love. We all felt safe and secure in this beautiful part of the World and will be going back as soon as we can.
“Our own little piece of paradise”
February 12, 2012
We just returned from a week at Ventana Bay Resort and can’t wait to go back again. Everything from the accomodations to the food to the ambience was fantastic. Sitting at the beach front restaurant you look out at the Ventana Bay across to Isla Ceralvo. You cannot see anything but nature yet you are only minutes from the city of La Ventana and one half hour from La Paz ( the capital of Baja ) There is something for everyone. You can kitesurf, windsurf, paddleboard, kayak, fish, mountainbike etc. Or you can just sit and read a book while enjoying the feel of the area. The resort has a feel more like it belongs in the mediterranean with the domed roofs of the casitas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

“Wonderful Baja Experience”
January 10, 2011
My wife and I have just returned from another great trip to Baja. La Ventana is a wonderful place and our stay at Ventana Bay Resort couldn’t have been better. We’ve stayed there about 5 times over that last few years and we couldn’t and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The accommodations are clean, nice, and very comfortable. The food is outstanding and definitely the best in the entire area (and we’ve eaten everywhere there). The sandy beach is beautiful and can’t be beat.
The resort is located just north of town, out of the beach congestion zone, and has great kiting and sailing conditions. Available on site is windsurfing equipment, kayaks, and mountain bikes for guest use.
The hosts are great and we always meet wonderful people there. We will be back and hopefully soon!

“”Beautiful, tranquil, paradise, our 5th time to stay here! I led a Yoga Retreat here in 2009″”
January 8, 2011
I LOVE Eco-Resorts. True eco-resorts. This place is perfect it you want it all. Kite-boarding, lazy days at the beach, kayaking in the calm warm waters, snorkeling, mountain biking. My husband spear fishes while I hang out in the hammock reading with my daughter. No TV’s, no noise. Blissful peace & warmth. I have led a Yoga Retreat here in 2009 & everyone loved it.
The food is AMAZING at night real homemade food cooked by locals. My husband caught a Wahoo spearfishing & they grilled it for the whole place!
If you need some serious down time, or are super active in sports, this IS IT, the place to go. We won’t stay anywhere else, & we come every year.
Quiet & romantic at night, the stillness & beauty of the water & the moon and the STARS are incredible.
We are thinking about doing another Retreat here in October 2011 to swim with the Whale Sharks!
